In my photography studio just outside Raleigh, NC, I recently photographed these two charming little girls in precious white heirloom gowns; a perfect choice for timeless images. Their session unfolded into a series of sweet and classic photographs that not only captured the innocence of childhood but also became the inspiration for a mixed media oil painting.

After the session, we had a whole gallery of candid and posed images that would have been precious as a portrait painting, but this one image stood out as the perfect shot to transform into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece - A portrait that beautifully encapsulated the reserved yet inquisitive expressions of these girls.

Using a digital canvas as my starting point, I meticulously painted the portrait by hand, making sure that every stroke was true to the original photograph while also perfectly translating over to the realm of painted portraits. Once this step is complete, the art is preserved on giclee hand-stretched canvas; which is then painted over by hand with real paint and brushwork. This technique seamlessly blends photography and traditional painting techniques, giving you the feel of a free hand oil painting, while perfectly preserving the realness of the original photograph.

We took special care in selecting a custom frame that complemented the overall aesthetic of the portrait as well as integrated into my client's home decor perfectly. The finished artwork was then delivered ready to hang, a timeless addition to the family's collection of cherished memories.
